Practice with a purpose... More than just drills and physical repetition, Pine Tar Academy instructors believe the development of young ballplayers is a progressive process requiring time, purposeful direction, and focus. Accordingly, we promote a positive and energetic learning environment. After all, there is so much to this game, just as many other areas of life, that it would be unwise for a player to hinder their chances to improve by thinking they know it all. Besides, if a player did know it all, they would have no need for instruction! Extending beyond the mechanics of a swing or the fundamentals of a throw, our lessons are focused on a larger goal. The habits and approach that our instructors promote, learned while becoming a more competitive game- day ballplayer, relate to long-term opportunity to be successful with any complex challenge or task a young student may encounter during their life experience. PTA students learn the value of being proactive while working hard & smart. Not to mention the art of failing productively, staying positive & determined all while focusing in the present moment. These are just a few intangibles that will help youth strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives. Simply put, a student does not have to be the best to try their best. Realistically the data indicates that a young player's chances of making it to the Big Leagues are staggeringly minute. But, the habits, self-reliance, lessons, memories and relationships formed at the ballpark last a lifetime.... earning the player a fighting chance to be successful in the real big leagues. Sincerely, Jay Mikenas Founder & Director of Player Development Pine Tar Academy, LLC. |
